Measurement of the impact of buffer stock intervention on food security of smallholder farmers in Ghana by means of the nutrient-content household dietary diversity index

Buffer stock intervention is a hedging policy against income losses due to price fluctuations, primarily from farming activities, notably the production of cereals. This paper investigates impact buffer on smallholder farmers’ food security in Ghana. To this end, motivation was estimate nutrient-content household dietary diversity index (NHDDI) based cross-sectional data set. We apply Coarsened Exact Matching, Weighted Least Squares, and Ordered Probit analysis as econometric methods. find that marital status, gender, education, positively security, while size number children under five years old have negative impact. also which positive direct mitigating effect years. The most important finding participation operations improves participating farmers. NAFCO its present form has effects for participants, but smaller non-participating farmers, consumers at large. latter could be reduced by implementing consisting buying during glut selling when supply tight.
